About the Artist
Scissors, Paper, Thirty Years.
I’m Charles Burns. I’m an artist and modern-day silhouettist, and one of few people in the world who still does this for a living.
I began cutting silhouettes as a street artist in London’s Covent Garden, working the piazza with little more than a pair of scissors and a good eye. It’s a long way from there to Windsor Castle, but that’s where I found myself one evening in 2017, cutting silhouettes of three generations of the Royal Family at the Queen’s 70th wedding anniversary. Along the way I’ve also cut portraits of President Clinton and President Mandela, and travelled five continents as the Roving Artist.
The Online Portrait Studio is my way of making that experience available to anyone, anywhere in the world, at a fraction of the cost of booking me in person.
